Unboxing and mobile application installation

After placing an order for a Labyrinth Drives USB 3.0 SSD, you will receive the following contents in the package:

  • 2.5″ USB 3.0 Labyrinth Drives SSD

  • USB 3.0 cable

  • A printed version of the quick start guide

Visit the Apple AppStore, select the Labyrinth Drives application and install it on your mobile phone. Type “Labyrinth Drives” in the search window to find the application

After installing the Labyrinth Drives application, perform the following steps:

  • Using the USB cables, provided, connect the SSD to your laptop or PC.
  • Enable Bluetooth on your phone, if it is not already.
  • Leave the drive connected to a power source, via the USB cable, so it charges fully

Out of the box drive set-up and application start

Follow the instruction given below to setup the drive and the application for daily use. The drive needs to be either charged or connected to a laptop or PC. You should be able to connect and communicate with a charged drive without the need of connecting a cable. However, keep in mind that the drive can transfer data to a laptop or PC via USB cable connection only.

After charging the drive full, please perform the following actions:

  • Make sure you have the Bluetooth enabled on your phone
  • Open the Labyrinth Drives application and authenticate yourself with a generic iOS interface:
  • Upon successful authentication you should view a drive scanner screen. Follow the application flow and setup your new drive.

Start drive initialisation

Set your drive password

Initialisation successful!

Daily use

Daily operation requiers a Labyrinth Drive SSD and an installed application on your mobile phone.

To authenticate yourself use the Labyrinth Drives application. Select your drive, unlock it with your password. You should be able to access your data when your drive is connected to a Laptop or PC via a USB 3.0 port.

Start authentication

Select your drive

Enter password

Drive access granted!

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Is the Bluetooth communication encrypted?

Yes, the Bluetooth communication is encrypted.
2

Is drive data accessible via a wireless interface?

No, data is accessible only via a USB 3.0 or SATA drive connector. Only authentication is done with the use of the Bluetooth interface.
3

What happens if I lose my phone?

You have two ways to handle that situation. You can either use a one-time-access code and set a new password, or use a second smartphone, assuming it has been previously paired with the drive.
4

What happens if I forget my password?

You can use a one-time-access code to reset your password.
5

What happens if I lose my password and have lost my list of one-time-access codes?

The only way to recover data in this situation is from a second drive, which has a backup containing the content you require.
6

Can the sanitisation process be triggered by accident?

Sanitisation activation is dependant upon your settings. If any one of the settings’ conditions is fulfilled (e.g. your request, pin retries overflow, case tampering or battery level) then sanitisation will be performed. You will always have the option to sanitise the drive remotely, regardless of any setting, provided the drive can be contacted. However, there should not be any accidental sanitisation incidents.
7

What does the sanitisation process do?

The sanitisation process wipes all the DEKs (Data Encryption Keys), which means that your data cannot be accessed anymore. It will be left on the NAND flash memory chips encrypted with AES256.
AES 256 has not been broken yet and we have followed NIST standards to guarantee top security which is also quantum computing resistant.
8

Is the authentication process simple and quick?

Yes. It is one of the fastest authentication processes available on the market. Usability and security are top values for Labyrinth Drives.
